The Refugee Health Assessment Template 2018 (the Template) considers the primary care context including workflow and whole of practice approaches and will assist primary care providers to deliver high quality on arrival health care for people from refugee backgrounds.
Thirty-two face-to-face consultations with nurses (11), general practitioners (17), practice managers (2) and specialists (2) from a range of settings and advice from 23 bi-cultural workers from refugee backgrounds, as well as 41 survey respondents informed the 2018 update of the Template. The Template was trialed in two primary care settings and has been accepted as a clinical resource by the Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP) and has been endorsed by Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA).
The Template supports the delivery of refugee health assessments in line with current clinical recommendations, to assist primary care providers to complete the Refugee Health Assessment Medicare Item (Items 701, 703, 705, 707).
