Navigating the Victorian Mental Health System

Information session for bicultural workers hosted by the Victorian Refugee Health Network and cohealth

In September the Victorian Refugee Health Network partnered with cohealth’s Victorian Bicultural Workers Network to deliver an information session on navigating the Victorian mental health system and using the new Bilingual Mental Health Glossary.

We welcomed guest presenters from a Mental Health and Wellbeing Local and from a Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centre to talk about their organisations and inform participants about how members of the community can access and use them effectively.

The Network gave an overview of the levels within the Victorian mental health system, informing participants about access, eligibility and forms of support. Participants discussed how the new Bilingual Mental Health Glossary could support their work, and shared stories about the barriers facing people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds when trying to access care.

The Network thanks Jasmine Phillips for facilitating the session, and Fatima Muhammed, Clare Fleming and Gemma Kermac for their fantastic presentations.
